Trip to Kota Kinabalu

Living in the city is hectic. For my parents, they are always busy meeting up with clients, attending conferences, travelling to other places for business trips, basically WORK. Whereas myself, I have to attend classes, finish up my assignments, and spending time with friends. This is the life you have living in the city. As a result, chances of us going out for trips and holidays are very very dim but on the 17th of March 2009, we have our first chance to fly out. We went to Kota Kinabalu, one of the most visited heritage in Malaysia and we had lots of fun.

_kk1This is myself, my little cool bro and sister having breakfast at Mcdonald’s before we depart from LCCT. The last time I ate there was back in 2006 and it was really really packed but that day, there were only a few customers. I can really feel the effects of recession.

We spent the first 2 days on the mountains of Kinabalu and we stayed at a very traditional resort. In other words, we lived in wooden houses but it’s called a hotel overthere. The weather was just tremendous. It’s refreshing and smelled of ferns all the time. In KL, you don’t get that kind of feel and smell.

In the picture: My family taking a walk around the resort.

_kk3This is the picture of Mount Kinabalu, chosen as one of the 10 wonders of the world. You can see that the peak is made up of only granite. So you can imagine how cold is it up there, about -5 degrees. This picture is taken at 7am in the morning.

_kk4I found this Time Capsule prepared by Tun Dr.Mahathir in Kinabalu Park, the place where you start hiking Mount Kinabalu. The moment I saw it, my level of curiosity increases. I wonder what is inside the safe box. According to the tourist guide, it contains documents that will change Malaysia and bring the nation to the next level. It can only be opened on the specific date by the Prime Minister at that time. The top box can only be opened on the 1st of October. That means I’m 31 years old at that time. The second will be on the 25th of June 2050. I’m an old man already at that time.

_kk5 Thank God we managed to see the wonderful and huge Rafflesia, the biggest flower in the world. The diameter of this flower is about 1 metre, that is really really big. It takes up to 12 months to bloom completely and lives for 7 days only. Phew, we came at the right place at the right time. However, it stinks!!!

_kk6After a fruitful 2 days on the mountains, we went down to the city. Nothing much to see though. That is because KK is not as advanced as KL. But there’s one shop in One Borneo that you can’t find in KL. It’s called Newyork Newyork. The special dish is the mega burger and the size is bigger than a chicken. Checkout the picture.

Alright, that’s all about I have to say about the trip to KK. I actually took about 300 photos but I can’t be explaining them one by one, piece by piece. Otherwise I will be taking years to complete the task. Overall, it’s really a great and awesome trip. If you are reading this article and you’re a Malaysian, you have to visit KK at least once in your entire lifetime. After all, it’s located in your own country.
